As the home of America’s first pharmacy association founded in 1852, APhA Headquarters offers a unique opportunity to explore the history of pharmacy in America.
Dedicated in 1934 and designed by renowned architect John Russell Pope, APhA Headquarters is the only privately owned building on the National Mall. The building stands as a symbol of pharmacists’ enduring contributions to health care and public service, blending historic architecture with nearly two centuries of pharmacy history.
On display are exhibits highlighting APhA's members and role in shaping the profession, including materials related to former Presidents and Vice Presidents of the United States, APhA's service as the National Quinine Pool during World War II, and pharmacy's vital contributions to American culture and public health.
Guided tours are available by appointment on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm, excluding holidays. Advance requests of at least two weeks are appreciated. Additional dates and times may be considered on a case-by-case basis, subject to staff and facility availability. Priority consideration is given to APhA members.
