Sterile Compounding Pharmacist Board Certification Review and
Recertification Activities
APhA has partnered with the U.S. Pharmacopeia, the
organization responsible for setting standards for sterile compounding, to
plan and develop a comprehensive, innovative, and professional
development program for BPS’s Specialty in Compounded Sterile
Preparations Pharmacy. This program is designed to meet the needs of
practitioners seeking a BCSCP designation or to provide recertification credit
to those who have earned the credential.
Additionally, APhA offers sterile compounding education at the APhA Annual
Meeting & Exposition for both pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
BCSCP 2025 Preparatory and Recertification Program
This 12-hour program includes regulations and best practices, facility needs,
cleaning, garbing, and equipment requirements. The last portion of the
program will discuss supply chain and patient care considerations, and roles
and responsibilities of pharmacy leaders.
Sterile Compounding for Pharmacy Technicians: Selected Topics
This 12-hour training program will instruct compounding professionals on
selected topics regarding sterile compounding operations. Topics covered
include regulations and best practices, facility needs, cleaning, garbing and
equipment requirements. The last portion of the program will discuss supply
chain, patient care considerations, and roles and responsibilities of pharmacy
leaders.
APhA's Practical Approach to Sterile Compounding: 2026 Recert
Package
This course package offers current BCSCP specialists an opportunity to earn
7 hours of board recertification and ACPE credit.
APhA's Practical Approach to Sterile Compounding for Pharmacy
Technicians
This course package offers current sterile compounding pharmacy
technicians an opportunity to earn 7 hours of ACPE credit in preparation for
the PTCB Certified Compounding Sterile Preparation Technician exam. These
sessions were held live during the 2026 APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition
and were recorded.

BCSCP RECERT: USP <797> Pharmaceutical Compounding — Sterile
Preparations for Compounding Professionals
This 6.5-hour online interactive recertification course is intended for board-
certified sterile compounding pharmacists seeking to earn recertification
credit for their BPS certification. Developed in partnership with the U.S.
Pharmacopeia (USP), this course describes the scope of USP <797>, outlines
the responsibilities of compounders, defines the criteria for component
selection, and describes the facility requirements for sterile compounding.
BCSCP RECERT: USP <800> Hazardous Drugs — Handling in Health Care
Settings for Compounding Professionals
This 6.5-hour online interactive recertification course is intended for board-
certified sterile compounding pharmacists seeking to earn recertification
credit for their BPS certification. Developed in partnership with the U.S.
Pharmacopeia (USP), this training describes the scope of USP <800> by
outlining quality standards and responsibilities of personnel for handling
hazardous drugs to help ensure patient and health care worker safety and
environmental protection.
BCSCP RECERT: USP 1160 Pharmaceutical Calculations
Calling all BCSCP pharmacists! This course is good for BCSCP recertification
credit. It will provide general information to assist pharmacists, pharmacy
technicians, and student pharmacists in performing calculations for
compounding and dispensing medications based on the topics listed in USP
General Chapter <1160>. Each section will provide background information
on the significance of any formula used for calculations, along with its
appropriate applications, and will have thorough explanations of how to
complete the calculations in various scenarios.
These course was produced in conjunction with the US Pharmacopeia.
APhA is approved by BPS as a provider for the recertification of BCSCP.
