APhA–ASP appointed positions

There are a variety of appointed positions available for student pharmacists throughout the academic year. Student pharmacists interested in any of the appointed positions should complete our online form.

Applications for these appointed positions are due December 1 at 11:59 pm PT. The APhA–ASP National Executive Committee will make their selections in the following spring and notify all applicants of their decision.

Policy opportunities

Nine student members are appointed by the APhA–ASP National Executive Committee to serve on the APhA–ASP National Nominating Committee. The committee meets during the APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition. These members consist of one member from each region and the committee chair. The APhA–ASP immediate past president serves as an ex-officio member of the committee. This committee interviews all the candidates during a closed Nominating Committee meeting. The Nominating Committee then presents a slate of candidates at the Second Session of the APhA–ASP House of Delegates.

Term length: APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition (March)

Responsibilities:

  • Attendance at the APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition and all related sessions during the meeting is required.
  • Prior to Annual Meeting, committee members will receive email communications with documents to review in preparation for the meeting.

Eight student members are appointed by the APhA–ASP National Executive Committee to serve on the APhA–ASP Policy Reference Committee. The committee meets during the APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition. These members consist of one member from each region. The APhA–ASP immediate past speaker of House serves as an ex-officio member of the committee. Committee members receive comments from townhall sessions and the in-person APhA–ASP Open Hearing at the APhA Annual Meeting. Following the in-person Open Hearing, committee members will draft a final report for consideration during the final session of the House.

Term length: APhA Annual Meeting

Responsibilities: Members of the APhA–ASP Policy Reference & Exposition (March) Committee must attend the APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition and all required sessions during the meeting: APhA–ASP Open Hearing, committee meeting, and APhA–ASP House of Delegates (both sessions).

One student member serves on the committee. The purpose of the committee is to review proposed policy submitted by Delegates to the APhA House of Delegates and recommend action on these items. The committee’s work is essential to the policy development process as it is the first opportunity for new language to be reviewed by pharmacy peers prior to its introduction during the Final Session of the APhA House of Delegates at the APhA Annual Meeting.

Term length: 9-month term from July through March

Responsibilities: The committee’s responsibilities include holding an Open Hearing before the Final Session of the APhA House of Delegates and an Executive Session to discuss the policy proposals and prepare the committee report.

One student member serves on the committee. The APhA Policy Committee is charged with analyzing specific topics assigned by the Board of Trustees and proposing policy on those issues to the APhA House of Delegates. The committee is comprised of seven to 10 APhA members from a variety of pharmacy specialties with specific professional and policy expertise.

Term length: 9-month term from July through March

Responsibilities:

  • Committee members meet virtually in the fall to develop policy statements.
  • Committee members must prepare a report of policy recommendations for presentation to the APhA House of Delegates at APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition.

One student member serves on the committee. The Policy Review process helps ensure that existing policy is relevant and reflects the opinion of the pharmacy community. Any existing policy will be subject to review every 5 years or less. Policy Review Committee is comprised of seven to 10 APhA members.

Term length: 9-month term from July through March

Responsibilities:

  • The committee meets via conference call to determine whether adopted policy statements should be amended, retained, archived, or rescinded. The committee can propose New Business Items for those statements needing an amendment.
  • The committee reviews adopted policy statements according to the schedule outlined in the House of Delegates Rules of Procedure.
  • The committee reviews adopted policy related to the policy topics assigned to APhA’s Policy committee.

Publication opportunities

One student member serves on the advisory board. Members of the EAB convene annually or virtually during the APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition to discuss the direction and priorities for Pharmacy Today.

Term length: 1-year term from March through March

Responsibilities:

  • Attend annual EAB meeting
  • Provide input on article/topic selection for Pharmacy Today issues as needed
  • Serve as consultants to the editors about proposed changes or new directions in Pharmacy Today content and format
  • Provide feedback on Pharmacy Today issues and suggest areas needing improvement

One student member serves on the advisory board. Members of the EAB serve as a core group of peer reviewers for submitted manuscripts, typically no more than two to three annually.

Term length: 1-year term from March through March

Responsibilities:

  • Attend annual EAB meeting at the APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition and virtual fall retreat EAB meeting.
  • Serve as a peer reviewer for submitted manuscripts, typically no more than two to three annually.
  • Advise the editors about proposed changes or new directions in journal content and format or in the processes (e.g., peer review) and policies associated with the Journal.
  • Suggest areas needing improvement and assist, as needed, to examine specific questions and suggest solutions.
