Zero Tolerance for Harassment and Disrespect
APhA is committed to promoting safe, respectful, and supportive environments across all pharmacy practice settings
nationwide, recognizing that these conditions are essential to workforce well-being and high-quality patient care.
Zero Tolerance Flyer
Pharmacists and pharmacy personnel are dedicated to delivering high quality care to every patient with
compassion, respect, and dignity—and expect all patients and visitors to do the same, without exception.
Pharmacy teams must be able to work in an environment free from harassment, bullying, and disruptive behavior.
Unfortunately, insights from the Pharmacy Workplace & Well-being
Reporting system show that negative workplace
conditions, including inappropriate behavior from patients and customers, remain a significant concern across
pharmacy settings.
APhA and NASPA developed the Pharmacist’s Fundamental
Responsibilities and Rights focused on pharmacists’
responsibilities and workplace expectations needed to fulfill their responsibilities. Pharmacists and pharmacy
personnel have a fundamental right to be treated in a considerate, respectful, and professional manner by
patients and supported by employers and supervisors.
This zero-tolerance commitment affirms those rights and expectations. Disrespectful, abusive, or threatening
behavior toward staff will not be tolerated. By fostering a respectful environment, we can ensure pharmacy teams
are able to focus on what matters most: your health and well-being.
We encourage all patients and visitors to partner with us in maintaining a culture of kindness, professionalism,
and mutual respect.
Organizations are welcome to co-brand this flyer with their logo and display it prominently in their pharmacy
to reinforce this shared commitment.
