During his first State of the Union address, President Biden spoke about the need to protect our communities from COVID-19 and announced a new “Test to Treat” initiative. President Biden described “Test to Treat” as an initiative that would allow people to “get tested at a pharmacy and, if they prove positive receive the antiviral pills on the spot at no cost.”

I just got back from a 2-week APhA thank-you and listening tour across the state of Florida. I visited 19 sites, including independent pharmacies, chain pharmacies, hospitals, colleges of pharmacy, and a compounding pharmacy; I ended the trip at Clinical Pharmacology Services, where I spent time with Florida Pharmacists Association President Dan Buffington, PharmD, MBA, FAPhA, and my son, Alex Knoer, who is completing a residency with Dan.

We started 2021 with hope. We finally had vaccines and pharmacy was perfectly positioned to save the world. Unfortunately, hopes of quickly vaccinating out of the pandemic were dashed by vaccine hesitancy and rapidly mutating variants.
