From the Desk of the CEO

Often when I’m talking with student pharmacists or pharmacists at meetings or in the community, I hear “I sure wish our profession weren’t so divided. Why can’t we be unified like medicine?”

I am honored and humbled to have served as APhA’s interim executive vice president and CEO for the past 13 months during the search for a permanent CEO. It was an amazing experience leading APhA, meeting members and the broader pharmacy community, and moving our profession forward.

In the 1989 film Field of Dreams, an Iowa farmer is inspired to pursue a dream. He builds a baseball field on his farm driven by the promise that “if you build it, they will come.” His pursuit of his dreams bring him amazing results: baseball fans came in droves to his small farm in Iowa.

This year’s annual meeting was a resounding success. Over 3,500 attendees gathered together at APhA2023 in Phoenix in March to connect, learn, and explore.

The momentum is building for PBM reform and APhA remains focused on challenging PBM’s anticompetitive business practices which create an unequal playing field in the marketplace that disadvantages patients, pharmacists, and communities.
