Meeting the Requirements for Accreditation of an PGY1 Community Pharmacy Residency Program – A Skills Workshop

APhA Meeting the Requirements (MTR): Quality Improvement is a pharmacy residency education and training program created to assist programs with learning, practicing, and applying skills for quality improvement of your residency program. Participants engage in an interactive experience that guides you through the review, analysis, evaluation, and quality improvement of your program structure and materials, including learning experience descriptions, resident development plans, and formative and summative evaluations. Join this can’t miss series to meet with experts in small group sessions for targeted input on your program with easy-to-use checklists and thoughtful strategies to achieve accreditation standards.

The training program is designed for pharmacy residency directors, coordinators, preceptors, and other individuals involved in an existing pharmacy residency program administration and coordination. It is expected that participants have baseline knowledge of pharmacy residency program administration and facilitation. APhA MTR is ACPE-accredited and is comprised of a 2-hour home-study and a 2-hour live seminar for a total of 4 hours of CPE credit for pharmacists.

Learning Objectives & Module Details
At the completion of this ​Application-Based​ activity, participants will be able to:
  • List required elements of learning experience descriptions.
  • Describe effective strategies for learning experience development and use.
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify core learning experiences and competency areas through the use of case examples.
  • Discuss examples for providing formative and summative feedback.
  • Identity strategies to enhance resident development plans.
  • Explain the use of criteria-based tools for the evaluation of residency program materials and products.
  • Employ criteria-based tools to systematically and critically review and evaluate provided examples of materials.
Live Workshop

At the completion of this module, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the use of a specific criteria-based tool, the origin of the criteria, and the application of the criteria as an effective strategy for quality improvement in your pharmacy residency program.
  • Demonstrate the use of a criteria-based tool in the evaluation of a provided example of materials from a community-based pharmacy residency program.
  • Demonstrate use and application of the criteria-based tool in the evaluation of the participant materials.
  • Analyze findings from evaluation of participant’s program materials, identifying specific deficiencies and other areas for quality improvement.
  • Design specific action steps that can be used to address identified deficiencies or other areas of quality improvement.
How to Obtain a Certificate of Completion
  • Complete self-study module, which consists of a webinar, an assessment, and a module evaluation.
  • Achieve a passing grade of 70% or higher on the module assessment.
  • Attend the full live seminar and achieve a passing grade of 70% or higher on the final assessment.
  • Credit must be claimed for each course (self-study, live seminar, and post-live training) in order to obtain credit.
  • Participants will need to have a valid APhA (pharmacist.com) username and password, as well as a CPE Monitor account to claim credit. After credit has been claimed, please visit CPE Monitor for your transcript.
  • The Certificate of Completion will be available online upon successful completion of all activities on the participant’s My Training page.
  • APhA continuing pharmacy education policy provides you with two opportunities to successfully complete a continuing pharmacy education assessment. Please note that you will not be permitted to submit an assessment a third time. The current policy of the APhA Education Department is not to release the correct answers to any of our CPE tests. This is intended to maintain the integrity of the CPE activity and the assessment.
Accreditation Information

The American Pharmacists Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. APhA Meeting the Requirements (MTR): Quality Improvement Series is approved for a total of 4.0 contact hours of continuing pharmacy education (CPE) credit (0.4 CEUs). The ACPE Universal Activity Numbers (UAN) for this activity are listed below.
