Get to know your 2026–2027 APhA–ASP National Executive Committee: Emily Nguyen, national president-elect

Emily Nguyen is a third-year PharmD candidate at the University of Houston College of Pharmacy and is the 2026–2027 APhA–ASP national president-elect.

Hi, everyone! I am honored to serve as your 2026–2027 APhA–ASP national president-elect. It is an absolute privilege to represent our Student Pharmacist Community, and I am excited for the year ahead.

I was born and raised in Houston and am a proud student at the University of Houston College of Pharmacy (Go Coogs!). Despite the Houston bumper-to-bumper traffic, nothing compares to our incredible food scene, and I am always on the lookout for new restaurants and cafés! I love cooking and baking, and I am often brainstorming the menu for next year’s Thanksgiving.

I am a coffee fanatic and an aspiring matcha enthusiast, so you can always find me studying late at a coffee shop across town. My longest and most sustainable hobby has been escaping life with music, and I love listening to new albums and planning my next concert. On the off chance that I find free time, I enjoy playing volleyball, going to hot yoga, and (most realistically) taking long naps with my poodle, Rosie.

My APhA–ASP experience began when our chapter president-elect encouraged me to apply for the P1 liaison position. In this formative role, and later as communications vice president, I was working among a team of incredibly ambitious leaders that shared a common mission of expanding our outreach and uplifting our student pharmacists. From patient care events at Rio Grande Valley to legislation advocacy during Texas Pharmacy Association Day at the state capitol, I engaged in meaningful and impactful contributions growing from student empowerment and intentional leadership. I hope to make this a universal opportunity for all APhA–ASP members.

In this upcoming year, I am excited to work with our incredible leaders who continue moving this organization forward. I aim to give student pharmacists the voice and opportunity to truly believe they can make a change, just as APhA–ASP has instilled in me. Pharmacy is an ever-evolving profession, and it is my mission to equip our future pharmacy leaders with skills and support to champion this growth and serve our patients with empathy and excellence.

Together, I look forward to elevating our profession to new heights!

Five questions for Emily

1. What show are you currently binging and why do you like it?

I haven’t had the chance to binge any shows recently, but I’ve been loving the Good Hang with Amy Poehler podcast. I will also rewatch Gilmore Girls once temperatures drop below 70 degrees.

2. What bucket list item do you want to check off before you graduate?

Camping in Big Bend National Park to stargaze.

3. If you had 25 hours a day, how would you spend your extra time?

Sleep, sleep, sleep.

4. Are you summer, fall, spring, or winter? Please share why.

I am summer through and through! I love summer gatherings, both big and small, and nothing is better than going to the beach, eating mangoes, and enjoying a perfect lazy day.

5. What is your most used emoji and why do you like it?

I more often use stickers that I have saved, especially the yellow dinosaur ones (iykyk). There is one for every occasion, and they always make me laugh.
