APhA Employee Benefits
APhA’s benefits philosophy is to provide a comprehensive and competitive benefits package designed to foster the health and financial wellness of our staff and their families, while promoting work/life balance. Fulltime employees are eligible to participate in all of the benefits listed below. Modified Fulltime and Part-time employees are eligible for many of the same benefits, subject to the provisions of specific eligibility requirements for each benefit.
Medical
APhA offers two medical plans with CareFirst and contributes toward employee’s medical coverage depending on plan choice and dependents covered.
Health Savings Account (HSA)
When enrolled in the APhA HDHP medical plan, an HSA is automatically opened and funded on the employee’s behalf through Further. Funds may be used to pay for eligible medical, pharmacy, dental, and vision expenses. APhA will contribute $31.25 per pay ($750 annually) for single coverage and $62.50 per pay ($1,500 annually) for family coverage.
Health Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
Employees not enrolled in the APhA HDHP medical plan may take advantage of a Health Care Flexible Spending Account by setting aside pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible medical, pharmacy, dental, and vision expenses through P&A. Health FSA is fully funded by employee.
Dependent Care FSA
The Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account, through P&A, allows employees to set aside pre-tax dollars to reimburse eligible dependent care services such as childcare and elderly care. Dependent Care FSA is fully funded by employee.
Dental
APhA offers two dental plans with CareFirst. APhA contributes toward employee’s dental coverage depending on plan choice and dependents covered.
Vision
APhA offers a vision plan through CareFirst with both in-network and out-of-network coverage. Employees are responsible for 100% of the premium coverage.
Basic Life & Basic Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance
APhA offers Basic Life and Basic AD&D through Guardian at no cost to the employee. The Basic Life Insurance benefit is two times an employee’s annual earnings, up to $300,000. The Basic Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) amount matches Basic Life. Additional Voluntary Life insurance is available.
Short-Term Disability (STD) & Long-Term Disability (LTD)
APhA offers both short-term disability and long-term disability through Guardian. The STD benefit is covered 100% by APhA, while the LTD benefit is a shared cost between APhA and the employee. STD covers 60% of your weekly income up to a maximum benefit of $2,500. LTD covers 60% of monthly income with a max benefit of $10,000.
Parking & Transit
APhA covers the full cost of onsite parking or metro transit for 2026. Onsite parking is limited but have the option to add name to waiting list. Metro transit subsidy is offered through WMATA’s Smartip program.
401(K) Retirement Savings: Principal
APhA matches 100% of the first 5% of your contributions immediately upon hire. With APhA’s 401(K) plan, you can:
• Defer up to 100% of your salary up to the IRS limits
• Pre-tax and Roth (post-tax) options
• Change deferral and fund allocation at any time
• Take advantage of semi-annual one-on-one consultation with a retirement advisor
Paid Time Off (PTO)
PTO accrual begins on your first day of employment and is available as it is accrued. PTO accrual rates are listed below. You may carry over up to 160 hours of PTO from one calendar year to the next.
• 0-3 years of employment: 6.15 hours/per pay period (20 days)
• 4-5 years of employment: 7:08 hours/per pay period (23 days)
• 6-9 years of employment: 8.00 hours/per pay period (26 days)
• 10+ years of employment: 9.23 hours/per pay period (30 days)
Holidays
Regular full-time and part-time employees are eligible for 13 paid holidays each year plus 4 floating holiday to use anytime throughout the year. Employees may end their day 3 hours early the day before the holiday (based on their regular start time).
Volunteer Leave
Regular or modified fulltime employees are eligible to take up to 8 hours of paid leave to participate in volunteer activities. Volunteer leave is per calendar year and cannot be carried over.
APhA Family Care Leave
Two weeks paid family leave to care for family member with serious illness.
Paid Medical Leave
Up to 12 weeks of paid leave for employee to care for their own serious health condition.
• Coordinates with Short-Term Disability and State Paid Leave (if applicable).
Parental Leave
Up to 12 weeks of paid leave to care for and bond with a newborn, newly adopted or newly placed child.
• Coordinates with Short-Term Disability and State Paid Leave (if applicable).
Employee Referral
$1,000.00 referral bonus paid in two installments.
Remote Work
To provide flexibility for personal reasons, all staff will be allowed to work an additional 2 weeks a year, remote. Manager and P&C approval will be required, and full weeks must be utilized when using this benefit.
Voluntary + Additional Benefits
Legal Benefits
Employees and their families have access to United Legal Benefits’ pre-paid legal services to assist with a wide range of legal concerns or services to include:
• Unlimited Legal advice and consultation
• Preparation of Legal documents – including Wills, Advance Directives and Powers of Attorney
• Review of Legal documents – such as lease and purchase agreements
• Representation in Court for certain legal matters
Pet Insurance
With pet insurance through Nationwide, you can protect your pet in case of emergency. Cost will vary on animal covered and policy selected.
Emergency Travel Assistance
This benefit, though UNUM and Assist America, can be used for business or personal travel when traveling 100+ miles away from home.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
APhA EAP is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through UNUM, to assist employees and their families with a variety of circumstances such as work/life balance, grief and loss, relationship or martial issues, anxiety or depression, life changes and substance addiction/abuse. This benefit is completely confidential.
