Victoria Lyle is a final-year PharmD candidate at the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Hello, everyone! I am incredibly excited, honored, and privileged to serve as your 2023–2024 APhA–ASP National President.
I’m a western New York native, born in Buffalo and raised in a suburb outside of the city called North Tonawanda. I graduated from Trocaire College in 2015 with my associate’s degree in applied science in radiologic technology. After working in the medical field for a few years as a “rad tech,” I had the overwhelming urge to pursue a career in pharmacy. In 2018, I started working as a pharmacy technician at a local CVS while still working as a rad tech at an orthopedic office. While balancing both jobs, I finished prepharmacy courses part-time at a community college, and in 2020 I started my journey through pharmacy school. Although the experience has had its difficulties, I’ve loved and appreciated every second of it. I have been working for Wegmans as a pharmacy intern for over a year and I love it! I am looking forward to starting my APPE rotations soon as it is an opportunity to explore more areas of the pharmacy profession.
I fell in love with APhA–ASP in October 2020 after attending my first Midyear Regional Meeting (MRM). Although it was virtual, I left the meeting feeling inspired, motivated, and excited for my future within the organization. I loved how the organization made me feel so connected to student pharmacists across the country and capable of making a difference in the profession.
After attending that MRM, I decided to run for a regional position to increase my involvement. I was elected as Region 1 regional member-at-large, a position that gave me the opportunity to serve as a member of the APhA–ASP Reference Committee and as regional membership coordinator. Through this role, I was able to promote APhA–ASP’s patient care projects to the chapters within my region.
As your APhA–ASP National President, I want to motivate student pharmacists to embrace the characteristics, qualities, and strengths that make them who they are. I want student pharmacists to believe they can advocate, believe they can make a difference, and believe that they matter.
This past year, you had the “Courage to Change” yourselves, your communities, and the profession of pharmacy. You all exemplified what it means to be courageous. This year, I want you to continue to use that courage to be yourselves, make changes in our profession, pursue your dreams, and become the best individuals you can be.
When my head isn’t buried in study materials for an upcoming exam, I really enjoy spending time with family and friends, whether that’s exploring a new restaurant, going on a walk near the waterfront, or watching Netflix. I love to journal, read, and listen to music or podcasts. The newest edition to my bucket list is to travel to all 50 states, and I’m looking forward to crossing some states off the list while serving on the National Executive Committee. So far, this position has allowed me to visit Texas, New Mexico, Connecticut, and Arizona. After I graduate from pharmacy school in 2024, I want to explore the world outside of the United States as much as I can.
