WASHINGTON, DC -- On June 22-23, 2025, the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), and National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the pharmacy workforce and prioritizing mental health and well-being during an invitation-only event, “Implementing Solutions Summit 2.0: Building a Sustainable, Healthy, Pharmacy Workforce and Workplace.” The summit brought together over 80 pharmacy professionals from across all practice settings to share progress, explore challenges, and identify new strategies to improve workplace conditions for pharmacists and pharmacy personnel.
The summit, a follow-up to a convening held in 2023, was conducted in response to persistent reports of challenging workplace environments and the ongoing stigma surrounding mental health support. Leaders at the summit acknowledged the emotional toll that high-stress work environments can have on pharmacists and pharmacy personnel and the need for safer, more supportive spaces where pharmacy professionals feel seen, valued, and able to ask for help without fear or stigma. The summit called for continued investment in mental health resources, peer support networks, and suicide awareness and prevention.
APhA, ASHP, and NABP remind all pharmacists and pharmacy personnel that if you are feeling alone and having thoughts of suicide–whether or not you are in crisis–or know someone who is, talk to someone you can trust by calling or texting “988,” the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
Tackling complex workforce and workplace challenges will require unified action across the profession. APhA, ASHP, and NABP are committed to working collaboratively and strategically to drive meaningful, lasting change. Summit proceedings will be shared by each participating organization in the fall. In the meantime, we encourage all members of the pharmacy profession to explore and utilize the resources currently available through each organization.
