Welcome to the last installment of my On Rotation Diary! My name is Becca McCaughey, and I am a recent graduate of the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. 

I believe that policy and advocacy in their most basic form are grassroots organizing. Grassroots movements help drive the profession forward.

I encourage all student pharmacists to take action by educating those around you about pertinent pharmacy issues, encouraging members of your APhA–ASP Chapter to e-mail their legislators, and backing the APhA–PAC to support elected officials and candidates who advocate for pharmacy issues.

True empowerment of patients can only come from a complete and unbiased presentation of information that direct-to-consumer advertisements are not currently providing.

Amid the isolation due to COVID-19, entering the pharmacy for my rotation was like a breath of fresh air. Little did I know that it would be more than just an academic reprieve from the pandemic.
