Seth Meyer is a third-year PharmD candidate at the Lipscomb University College of Pharmacy.
Being named as the APhA–ASP Chapter of the Year at the 2025 APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition was a profound honor for our college of pharmacy. The announcement during the awards ceremony was met with overwhelming excitement from all of our chapter members. I especially remember the sight of our chapter advisors—Justin Kirby, PharmD, and Sarah Uroza, PharmD—celebrating their well-deserved recognition of their unwavering dedication and leadership.
This award stands as a testament to the unwavering dedication and active engagement of our chapter’s executive committee, patient care chairs, and student members. Last year, our chapter achieved record-breaking membership, with more than 90% of student pharmacists across the college joining APhA–ASP. Of those members, more than 95% of them participated in at least one patient care or co-curricular event throughout the academic year, demonstrating a deep commitment to service and professional development.
A pivotal milestone
Among our many accomplishments, we launched a new local patient care project in collaboration with a nearby high school, supporting students pursuing pharmacy technician certification in a course designed to increase exposure to pharmacy. This effort led to an examination pass rate surpassing the national average, reflecting both the impact and quality of our outreach. Additionally, our chapter reached a significant milestone, by surpassing a total of 100,000 vaccinations administered by student pharmacists over the lifetime of our college. This further recognizes the impact of our chapter on public health in the community.
This achievement represents a pivotal milestone. As a smaller college of pharmacy with limited resources, receiving this national recognition demonstrates that a successful APhA–ASP Chapter is not solely defined by the scale of events or a large budget, but rather by the strength of servant-hearted leaders and the creativity and passion they inspire in others. Our chapter’s recognition again illustrates that meaningful engagement and leadership can drive impactful initiatives, regardless of school size.
Award will fuel continued chapter growth
The significance of winning this award was further magnified by the setting of the meeting in our school’s hometown of Nashville, where more than 70 of our chapter members were present to witness the moment. Throughout the weekend, I saw a newfound passion develop in our chapter members for APhA–ASP as an organization, and I believe that the significance of this award will fuel continued growth in leadership and innovation for our chapter in the years to come.
