Welcome to the new SPM

Welcome to the new SPM

What a year it has been for APhA–ASP! We kicked things off with a memorable 50th anniversary celebration at APhA2019 in Seattle. Then on social media and through multiple articles, we learned of the numerous ways that student pharmacists across the country are living their “Fearlessly Authentic” lives. Following a meaningful Summer Leadership Institute and eight incredible Midyear Regional Meetings, we come to the latest momentous 2019–20 occasion: the long-awaited redesign of one of your favorite membership benefits, Student Pharmacist!

As Editor and a long-time employee at APhA, I have a sense of personal pride in delivering this revamped publication to you. I have thought about this magazine makeover for years and spent many hours planning the new look and content. But of course, I could not have gotten to this point alone, right? That is why my colleague Crystal Atwell’s, PharmD, cover story (see pages 12–13) is so on point. It’s all about the team.

Crystal writes: “Your success is seldom a result of your sole efforts. In reality, to create successful and sustainable projects, you will need the strengths and help of others to get the work done.” And what a team we have.

Your current and previous two APhA–ASP National Executive Committees, National Communication Standing Committees, and Regional Members-at-large have steered the course of this process. They have been your voice on what today’s student wants to read in print and online. I thank each and every one of them for their direction and passion, and especially the camaraderie we shared.

And at APhA headquarters, I would like to give a shout-out to the talented Student Development, Creative Services, and Periodicals staff members. They all put their heart and soul into this project, as they always do.

Enjoy the new format, good luck with your studies, and we will see you for the next big event at APhA2020 in National Harbor, MD.

Tom English is the Editor of Student Pharmacist in Washington, DC.
