Anticoagulant medications are essential when treating atrial fibrillation (AFIB), pulmonary embolism (PE) and venous thromboembolism (VTE). New anticoagulants have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Collectively, these new oral anticoagulants have been found to be as efficacious as warfarin and safer in terms of fewer major bleeding episodes. Pharmacists are positioned to work with the health care team, identify patients who would be best suited for oral anticoagulation therapy, and develop strategies to educate patients on the appropriate, safe anticoagulant use to improve outcomes.

The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) has developed an acetaminophen continuing pharmacy education program that will prepare pharmacists to engage and communicate with patients on the safe and effective use of acetaminophen.
