APhA-ASP Member Spotlight: Debika Kundu

Meet Debika Kundu, an incoming second-year student pharmacist at St. John’s University. Debika is currently her APhA-ASP chapter president-elect and is interested in several different specialties within pharmacy, including clinical oncology, neurology, and pediatrics. We took a moment to catch up with Debika to learn more about her, as well as her passion for APhA-ASP.

Can you tell us about your journey with APhA-ASP so far? Why did you choose to become a member and why do you remain a member?

As a first-year student pharmacist, I was unaware of which path I wished to pursue within the field of pharmacy and wanted to explore my interests. I found comfort in joining APhA-ASP, a diverse organization that welcomes pharmacists and student pharmacists from a multitude of career pathways. Today, I remain a member of APhA-ASP because I find joy in collaborating with my fellow executive board and general body members, whose passion for pharmacy and patient care drives them to go above and beyond in their projects. Working alongside my like-minded peers has only increased my dedication toward APhA-ASP, and it is due to them that I continue serving on the executive board.

If you were a superhero, what power would you have?

I would love to have the power to speak and understand all languages!

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

If I could eat only one meal for the rest of my life, it would definitely be burrito bowls!

If you had to describe yourself as an animal, which one would it be?

I would describe myself as a butterfly, as I am constantly focused on my personal development and strive to become the best version of myself.

After a long day of school or work, what do you like to do in the evening to unwind?

You would most likely find me breaking a sweat at my local gym or completing an at-home workout! Exercising helps me reduce physical and emotional stress and gives me an intense feeling of euphoria.

What is your favorite APhA-ASP member benefit?

The graduation cord. It symbolizes the dedication and hard work that passionate student pharmacists have poured into APhA-ASP throughout their pharmacy school careers.
