A community for advocacy, innovation, and impact

Deanna Laughlin is a third-year PharmD candidate at the Northeast Ohio Medical University College of Pharmacy.

As the APhA Immunization Community student pharmacist liaison, I am honored to represent a passionate network of pharmacists, student pharmacists, and public health advocates dedicated to advancing vaccine confidence, access, and equity. Our community fosters discussion, shares evidence-based resources, and promotes innovative immunization practices to protect individuals and communities from preventable diseases.

Provides a platform to learn

My career interests center on infectious diseases, global public health, and pediatric immunization. After graduation, I aspire to integrate clinical pharmacy practice with health policy leadership, designing strategies to expand immunization programs in both the United States and underserved international settings. The Immunization Community provides a platform to learn from experts who have implemented high-impact vaccine initiatives, gain mentorship from leaders shaping national immunization policy, and collaborate with peers on advocacy projects—skills and relationships that will be invaluable as I work toward my goals.

The benefits of joining the Immunization Community extend far beyond professional development. For me, it has been a gateway to meaningful networking, mentorship, and hands-on opportunities. Through this group, I have participated in discussions on emerging vaccine technologies, contributed to immunization advocacy campaigns, and connected with pharmacists leading outreach in diverse practice settings—from community pharmacies to global health missions. These experiences have deepened my understanding of immunization challenges and strengthened my ability to address vaccine hesitancy, improve coverage rates, and champion equitable access.

Why you should join us

If you are passionate about protecting public health, influencing immunization policy, or strengthening your clinical practice, the Immunization Community offers the expertise, support, and inspiration you need. This community brings together professionals who believe vaccines save lives. By sharing best practices and supporting one another, we amplify our impact on the health of our communities.

I believe joining this community means joining a movement—one that is shaping the future of pharmacy and public health. Whether your focus is clinical excellence, patient education, or global vaccine advocacy, you will find mentorship, collaboration, and a shared mission here. Together, we can ensure every patient—everywhere—has access to the lifesaving power of immunization.

The marathon mindset

Training for a 26.2 mile race was the last thing I thought I’d be doing during my last year of pharmacy school, let alone running for fun in the first place.
