Congo set to receive 70,000 Ervebo vaccines to contain Ebola outbreak, WHO says

Aug 20 (Reuters) - The Democratic Republic of Congo has been allocated 70,000 doses of Merck's (MRK.N), Ervebo vaccine for ​Ebola, the World Health Organization said on Thursday, as the ‌country attempts to contain its biggest-ever outbreak of the deadly disease.

Moderna, Merck vaccine cuts recurrence and spread of melanoma, raising new treatment hope

Aug 19 (Reuters) - Moderna (MRNA.O), and Merck (MRK.N), said on Wednesday that a personalized mRNA cancer vaccine reduced the ​risk of recurrence and spread of melanoma in a late-stage trial, a major success in a new field of cancer treatment that sent Moderna's shares surging as much ‌as 160%.

The companies tested the vaccine together with Merck's immunotherapy drug Keytruda, a widely used melanoma treatment. Thousands of patients who have undergone surgery to remove high-risk melanoma tumors could benefit as soon as next year if regulators approve the vaccine, Moderna President Stephen Hoge said in an interview.

US school vaccination rates inch down yet again and exemptions reach record high

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. kindergarten vaccination rates inched down again last year and the share of children with exemptions rose to an all-time high, according to federal data posted Monday.

The fraction of kids exempted from vaccine requirements rose to 4.2%, up from 3.6% the year before. That’s an estimated 155,000 children nationally during the 2025-2026 school year.

Trump Order Reduces US Vaccine Schedule, Seeks to Split MMR Shot

WASHINGTON, Aug 10 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order ⁠on ⁠Monday calling for fewer childhood vaccinations by limiting the inoculation schedule ⁠to 11 immunizations, which he said would give U.S. children "gold-standard" protection and align the country with peer nations that recommend fewer shots.

The order advances ​a long-standing goal of Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an anti-vaccine activist who has promoted a link between vaccines and autism that scientists have repeatedly debunked.
