Ellie Flynn is a third-year PharmD candidate at The University of Kansas School of Pharmacy and a 2025–2026 APhA–ASP national member-at-large.
I am honored to officially introduce myself as one of your APhA–ASP national members-at-large! Outside of pharmacy, I am a retired theater kid and collegiate dancer with a passion for personal development and lifelong learning. My perfect day consists of a walk on a nice day with an ice-cold Arnold Palmer or reading a book by the pool. I also love to play video games—my favorites are Animal Crossing, The Sims, and anything Mario-related—and hang out with my friends.
Prior to pharmacy school, my career interests jumped around from Broadway star, to lawyer, to elementary school teacher. Who knew I would end up in a career where all my passions and skills would be used? I chose to change my major to pre-pharmacy after witnessing my small-town community pharmacy provide invaluable services to our community during the COVID-19 pandemic, but it wasn’t until I discovered APhA–ASP that I truly found my passion for the profession of pharmacy.
From the first day of pharmacy school, I was sold on the mission of APhA and got involved with various events at our chapter, which led me to run for the position of chapter president-elect. From there, I attended my first meeting, the 2023 APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition, and I became determined to expand my involvement beyond the chapter. I then served as Region 6 Midyear Regional Meeting Coordinator, where I got to connect with members of our region, work alongside an amazing team of leaders, and plan for MRM2024. I also was lucky enough to be selected as the 2024 APhA Carl F. Emswiller Summer intern, which grew my appreciation for the association to a level beyond belief and directed me to pursue a future career in association management.
My journey in APhA–ASP has been my favorite part of pharmacy school, and I am excited to spend my final year serving the organization that has gifted me the experience of a lifetime. I am most looking forward to connecting with student pharmacists from across the country and using my own experience and platform to empower others by connecting them with the amazing opportunities that APhA–ASP offers for both personal and professional development.
I can’t wait to see what the upcoming year has in store, and I am beyond excited to share this experience with all of you!
Five questions for Ellie
1. What show are you currently binging, and why do you like it?
I am currently on my sixth round through New Girl. I refer to this series as my “emotional support show” and will often have it playing in the background of other activities. The characters and storyline are so lovable and lighthearted, making it a great choice for a relaxing watch.
2. What bucket-list item do you want to check off before you graduate?
Go to a KU basketball game.
3. Which Marvel character is your favorite and why?
Captain America. In my opinion, he has one of the most poetic storylines and some of the best movies in the franchise. His humor, courage, empathy, and devotion to justice make him an easy character to love.
4. If you could perform at the Super Bowl, what would your opening song be and why?
“Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince”! In true Taylor Swift “The Eras Tour” fashion, I would love to appear from under the giant fans and listen to the intro containing clips from highlights of a successful musical career. Although, as much as I do love the performing arts, I would rather use the opportunity to watch Taylor perform it one more time.
5. If you could come up with your own ice cream flavor, what would you put in it?
Butter pecan ice cream with hot fudge, cookie dough, and brownie.
