APhA joins “Unite for Impact Challenge” to advance community pharmacy practice nationwide

Washington, DC (October 31, 2025) — The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) has joined the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) as a program partner in the Unite for Impact Challenge, a national initiative designed to spark collaboration, innovation, and measurable change in community pharmacy practice.

Supported by leading national associations, including the National Alliance of State Pharmacy Associations, the National Community Pharmacists Association, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, and APhA, the challenge invites colleges and schools of pharmacy, faculty, student pharmacists, staff, and community pharmacies to partner with external organizations to design and implement bold initiatives in three focus areas of community pharmacy practice:

  • Culture – Building strong pipelines, mentorship, and public awareness.
  • Practice – Expanding pharmacist-provided patient care services.
  • Advocacy – Engaging policymakers and amplifying pharmacy’s voice.

“The launch of the Unite for Impact Challenge marks a pivotal moment for community pharmacy practice across the nation,” said Lee Vermeulen, BSPharm, AACP Executive Vice President and CEO. “This initiative empowers schools, faculty, students, and practitioners to break down silos and build meaningful partnerships that drive measurable change. Together, we are laying the groundwork for a stronger, more connected future in community pharmacy.”

The Unite for Impact Challenge was developed as a direct outcome of insights shared during the 2025 AACP Advancing Community Pharmacy Institute: Unifying Academia and Practice for Impact and aims to accelerate implementation of new care models that improve access, expand services, and enhance public health.

Challenge participants will form teams comprised of at least two faculty members, one practicing community pharmacist, two trainees, and one or more partner representatives from state associations, boards of pharmacy, or other health professions. Participants will submit a written narrative describing their initiative or project, as well as a metrics summary showcasing tangible impact within their communities. Throughout the challenge, AACP and its partners will provide guidance, mentorship, and amplification to ensure participants have the tools and visibility needed to succeed.
