APhA Communities are where your next steps start

Kyle York is a final-year PharmD candidate at the Lipscomb University College of Pharmacy.

As the student pharmacist community liaison for APhA’s Health-System Community, I’ve had the opportunity to connect with pharmacists, residents, and fellow students who share a passion for hospital and clinical pharmacy practice. Our community serves as a home base for students interested in everything from inpatient pharmacy and clinical decision making to leadership and innovation in the health-system space.

Helping to put my goals in motion

After graduation, I plan to pursue a residency and a career within a health-system setting, ideally one where I can blend clinical care with leadership and advocacy. Being part of the Health-System Community has already helped me clarify these goals and put them into motion. I’ve connected with practitioners who are eager to mentor, share advice on navigating residency, and discuss career trajectories that go beyond traditional roles of pharmacy practice.

One of the most valuable aspects of this community is the open, welcoming environment. From discussions to virtual networking events and health education, I’ve found that pharmacists in this space are not only experts in their field, but they’re also committed to investing in the next generation.

Something for everyone

I would encourage any student interested in clinical pharmacy, residency preparation, or leadership within hospital systems to join us. Whether you're a first-year PharmD candidate just beginning to explore your interests or a final-year preparing for match season, this Community has something to offer you.

So, whether you’re seeking mentorship, networking opportunities, or insights to advance your career, the APhA Communities provide the support and resources you need. And if you’re passionate about impacting patient care on a system-wide level, join the Health-System Community. It’s where your next steps start. Be sure to check out the 22 other Communities as well and join now at www.pharmacist.com/Membership/Communities.
