CMS Innovation Center Care Innovations Summit Recap Released
The growing roles and impact pharmacists have on the delivery of care were well detailed in the recently released Care Innovations Summit Event Summary. More than 1,200 individuals attended the January 26, 2012 summit on-site and 3,000 joined online. The event was co-hosted by the CMS Innovation Center, the West Wireless Health Institute, and Health Affairs and brought together the private and public sectors as well as policymakers to discuss solutions for health care cost challenges. Concerning care delivery/primary care innovation, co-location of pharmacists was cited as a way to educate patients, titrate therapies, and reconcile medications. Leveraging pharmacists to address health literacy and complexity was also discussed during a session on medication non-adherence.
Pharmacists are encouraged to read the summit summary and promote the great things the broader community is saying about pharmacists provision of care in their own communities.
