A new video series being launched on social media aims to show consumers how pharmacists can enhance patient access to medications. The "Drug Pricing & Access" video series launched on Facebook and Instagram by Pharmacists for Healthier Lives (PfHL) will feature a diverse group of pharmacists who share their expertise and advice for patients to receive the right medications at an affordable cost. Lucinda Maine, PhD, FAPhA, executive vice president and CEO of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy—a partner of PfHL—observes: "Transparency is needed across the whole system of medication prescribing, contracting, and distribution to the point of patient care." Pharmacists can assist patients in navigating the complicated area of drug pricing because they can access patients' insurance plans to check what medications are covered. Pharmacists can also explain medication options and ensure patients understand how to use their prescribed medications correctly. Susan Cantrell, CEO of AMCP, another PfHL partner, says: "Pharmacists can provide a unique perspective on accessing affordable medications as they are on the frontlines interacting with patients every day as their partner in care. Managed care pharmacists specifically design pharmacy benefits to ensure patients get the medications they need at a cost they can afford."
