New lipid guidelines shift focus back to LDL goals

Earlier this year, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) and American College of Endocrinology (ACE) released clinical practice guidelines for management of dyslipidemia and prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Unlike the 2013 American Heart Association (AHA)/American College of Cardiology (ACC) guidelines, which shifted the focus from LDL targets to varying intensities of statin therapy for select patients, the AACE/ACE guidelines discuss specific LDL targets. Of the 87 recommendations included, 45 are Grade A.
