APhA part of effort targeting illegal online pharmacies

APhA has partnered with the Alliance for Safe Online Pharmacies (ASOP Global) and 15 other national health care stakeholders to educate providers and patients about the surge in illegal online pharmacies and counterfeit medicines. Of more than 11,000 websites selling prescription drugs to U.S. consumers, about 96% do not comply with U.S. laws, a recent review by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy found. Also, one-half of the medicines sold online from websites that hide their physical address are counterfeit, and 89% of illegal online pharmacies do not require a prescription.
