A Walgreens survey conducted in late August found that almost three-quarters of Americans intend to get the influenza vaccine earlier this year to be better protected against the illness sooner. Forty percent of respondents said they expect this influenza season to be as severe as last year, while 12% expect it to be worse. About one-third of the respondents said they have not gotten an influenza vaccination in the last 3 years. Nearly two out of five stayed away from the vaccine because they thought it was ineffective. Meanwhile, almost 80% of respondents had influenza or had a family member contract the illness within the last 3 years.
