It’s June, and you employers know what that means. New pharmacy graduates are joining the profession, bringing fresh ideas and boundless enthusiasm to our practice sites.
This year, we have what is likely history’s largest group of new pharmacists sitting for boards, starting residencies, and looking for their place in pharmacy. For them, the MTM profiles in this issue of Pharmacy Today have special meaning, for they show the diversity of positions and places where pharmacists can create professional homes.
A psychiatric pharmacist certified by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties, Jose A. Rey, MS, PharmD, BCPP, is well known for his services to law enforcement personnel in south Florida (page 42). He shares with them his special expertise about the effects of medications and drugs of abuse on people’s behavior. Rey is also a pharmacy professor and residency director, one who makes sure that the next generation of pharmacists will have the drive and love of the profession that have made his career so successful.
In the Health-System Edition (page HSE 2, available online at www.pharmacytoday.org to readers of the National Edition), the Many Faces of MTM profile illustrates a nontraditional career path: linking the clinical literature with health information technology through editorial and drug literature–evaluation activities. The pharmacists at Truven Health Analytics in Denver have found professional happiness through their work with the Micromedex 360 Care Insights Suite and other products that pharmacists and health professionals rely on everyday.
To our new colleagues—or any pharmacists who are looking for a path forward in the profession—read these articles and use your imagination. You never know what’s out there until you look, and sometimes what you find will exceed your greatest expectations.
Enjoy your June Today!
