Kroger announced Wednesday that one of its subsidiaries is acquiring Modern HC Holdings Inc., the corporate parent of ModernHealth. Financial terms of the agreement were not revealed, but Kroger said Modern HC Holdings would become part of its Axium Pharmacy operations. The purchase of ModernHealth—one of the largest independent providers of specialty pharmacy services in the United States—is expected to boost purchasing efficiency, reduce costs, and expand Kroger's footprint in the western and southwestern parts of the country. "This strategic investment will accelerate the growth of Kroger's health and wellness business," said Robert Clark, Kroger's senior vice president of merchandising. "Expanding our specialty pharmacy services will provide our customers with greater access to medications we don't currently dispense and access to additional services without going to another pharmacy."
