This weekend, Meijer pharmacies throughout the Midwest will hold Back to School Immunization Events to help families protect against influenza before school starts. On Saturday, August 12, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Meijer pharmacists in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Kentucky will provide vaccinations and information about other avoidable conditions that often affect school children. The company's vice president of pharmacy operations, Karen Mankowski, says that although many people believe the best time to get vaccinated against influenza is when the weather turns colder, "getting [an influenza] shot before or soon after school starts can make a big difference. Once classes start, that's when viruses become, well, viral, and it becomes difficult to keep influenza from spreading." Meijer operates 235 pharmacies in its supercenters throughout the Midwest. All of the pharmacies administer the influenza vaccine without an appointment during pharmacy hours and accept most major insurance plans. Depending on age, health status, and state regulations, Meijer offers a number of vaccine options, including the trivalent vaccine, quadrivalent vaccine, and HD vaccine.
