Image›› Medication Therapy Management Services: Identifying and Addressing Medication Adherence Issues

Numerous strategies have been used in attempts to improve patient medication adherence rates. One meta-analysis of the efficacy of various strategies to improve adherence found that one-to-one counseling was the most effective method for addressing adherence, whereas provision of written and/or audiovisual educational materials designed to improve adherence was the least effective. Therefore, medication therapy management (MTM) services provided by pharmacists and the resulting interventions and interactions between a patient and pharmacist may provide ideal opportunities to assess and manage patient adherence. This CE monograph was developed by the American Pharmacists Association and supported by an independent educational grant from McNeil Pediatrics administered by Ortho-McNeil Janssen Scientific Affairs, LLC.

ACPEThe American Pharmacists Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.
