February 2012
Will You Be The Next Member of the National
Executive Committee? Deadline Approaching – February 8 The deadline for applications for
any candidate wishing to run for a national office in APhA-ASP is
February 8, 2012. The APhA-ASP National Executive Committee is
comprised of five members: President, President-elect, National
Member-at-large (2), and Speaker of the House. Elections for the
APhA-ASP President-elect, Members-at-large and Speaker of the House take
place each year during the APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition.
All APhA-ASP members are eligible to campaign for national office.
Elected officers are to remain in their first professional degree
program during their complete terms of responsibility. Elected officers
occasionally are required to attend meetings and conferences during the
school year.
Serving as an APhA-ASP national officer is rewarding and
satisfying, both professionally and personally. Elected officers who
choose to serve their profession have the personal satisfaction of
knowing that they have been elected by their colleagues to represent
them in their national professional society. At times, serving as an
elected officer may be a very difficult and demanding job, but the
position is meant to complement, not compete with educational
responsibilities. An elected officer's education always takes the higher
priority.

Your APhA-ASP Chapter Can Make a Difference for
the APhA-PAC with Winter is Cold, But Advocacy is Hot! Over the next several years, pharmacists will face many new
challenges and opportunities with the implementation of health care
reform. Pharmacists will fight to become equal members on
patients’ health care teams and oppose increased regulation and
decreased reimbursement. This winter is your opportunity to be a leader
in APhA’s advocacy efforts and become a change maker for your
profession.
Now is your time to take a stand. APhA-ASP chapters are
encouraged to hold advocacy activities and raise funds for the APhA
Political Action Committee throughout the winter as part of the Winter
is Cold, But Advocacy is Hot campaign. The APhA-PAC supports candidates
for federal office who recognize the value of pharmacists and support
pharmacy legislative issues Visit the APhA-PAC
website to learn how student pharmacists can make a
difference.
