2008 Heartburn Awareness Challenge Awards

The 2008 National winning chapter approached the Heartburn Awareness Challenge with the vision to expand their community events beyond their small town. In order to accomplish this, they increased involvement with their state association, organized training sessions and a mass media campaign. They were also present at health fairs throughout the state. Keeping in mind their rural location and access problems they experienced they traveled half way across the world to improve the lives of those with heartburn in a truly underserved country, Kenya. For three weeks with the assistance of translators in tow they provided free counseling, screenings, and medications for over 400 patients with heartburn and GERD.
