Registration – Waitlist - Chapter Advisors - Hotel Information - NEW: Capitol Hill Visits - Cancellation - More Information - What to Wear

The APhA Summer Leadership Institute is designed to help APhA-ASP Chapter officers develop their leadership skills as they prepare to guide their Chapters toward continued success. During a series of interactive and educational sessions, attendees will be challenged to identify their leadership style, discuss teamwork strategies, develop communication skills, and receive updates on APhA-ASP activities. On behalf of APhA and Procter & Gamble, we look forward to sharing the APhA Summer Leadership Institute experience with all of this year’s attendees.

REGISTRATION
All APhA-ASP Chapters and satellite campuses are invited to send one chapter leader to attend the 2010 APhA Summer Leadership Institute, however, an exception is made for schools that received their charter at APhA2010.  All APhA-ASP Regional Officers, APhA-ASP Standing Committee Members and APhA-ASP/IPSF National Officers are extended a separate invitation to the APhA Summer Leadership Institute and do not count as your Chapter’s representative.

APhA offers free registration to all attendees. All meals, except Saturday dinner, are provided. Attendees are responsible for their transportation and the cost of hotel accommodations secured for the meeting. Most APhA-ASP chapters provide funding for each attendee to participate.

Available: April 6 2010 APhA Summer Leadership Institute Online Registration Form
Deadline: May 7
Online registration is the only method to register. The deadline for your chapter to register your one representative is May 7 at midnight (PST).

WAITLIST
Space is limited. However, APhA will accept additional registrations on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Available: April 6
Deadline: May 7

To place additional chapter representatives on the 2010 APhA Summer Leadership Institute Waitlist, register your representative online. E-mails to APhA-ASP requesting to be placed on the will not be accepted. Registration on the SLI Waitlist does not guarantee a spot at SLI.

After the APhA Summer Leadership Institute Online Waitlist Registration period closes an e-mail will be sent the weeks of May 14-May 28 informing those on the SLI Waitlist if a spot is available. If a spot does become available the student pharmacist will need to confirm their attendance or they will forfeit their tentative spot.

CHAPTER ADVISORS
All Chapter Advisors are invited to attend 2010 APhA Summer Leadership Institute. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about APhA-ASP and what occurs throughout the year and the role that advisors have within the chapter and meet with the APhA staff. In addition to attending the student programming there is an advisors roundtable.  Advisors use the same registration form and follow the same hotel policies as all other registrants.

NEW! CAPITOL HILL VISITS
Friday morning, July 16 is a great opportunity for you to impact your profession and advocate for pharmacy by conducting Hill Visits with your Members of Congress and/or their staff. A face-to-face meeting with your Members of Congress and/or a key member of their staff is one of the most valuable ways to establish a relationship and effectively lobby your position. Members of Congress and their staff know that the more time that you spend communicating your message to them the more important the issue is to you. Moreover, through these face-to-face discussions, you have a better opportunity to influence their position and build rapport with the Member and/or their staff. They don’t know your position unless they hear from you.

During SLI, you have the exciting opportunity to meet with your Members of Congress and/or their staff in their Washington Offices. To prepare you for your Hill Visits, APhA will provide you with tips, talking points, and leave behind materials.  APhA staff will also provide two Hill Visit Briefing sessions for SLI attendees who choose to conduct Hill Visits:
• Conference Call: Thursday, July 8, 2010 from 7:00pm-8:00pm (EST).  The conference call number is (888) 809-4012 and the passcode is 4297575#.
• On-site: Friday, July 16, 2010 from 9:00am-10:00am (EST)

We strongly encourage you to attend both sessions, but we ask that participants attend at least one session. To prepare, we have developed several materials:
• Checklist for Conducting Hill Visits at APhA’s SLI
• A Hill Visit meeting request template letter for SLI participants
Lastly, once you have scheduled your visits, please RVSP your appointment information for EACH participant who will be conducting the Hill Visit.

If you have any questions or need any additional information on conducting or scheduling Hill Visits, please contact Allison Wiley, APhA’s Political Action Manager, at awiley@aphanet.org or at 202-429-7521.
