Pharmacy Professionalism Toolkit for Students and Faculty
Provided by the APhA-ASP/AACP Committee on Student Professionalism

AACP

PROFESSIONAL YEARS 01, 02, 03 (Didactic)
Faculty Retreat

Description of activity
Dedicate all or a portion of a faculty retreat to the issue of student and faculty professionalism. Use the retreat to emphasize the importance of professionalism within the institution via group discussion and speakers. Clarify the institution’s expectations for professional behavior and attitudes among faculty, as well as students. Explore ways to promote and assess the level professionalism within the pharmacy college community.

Rationale
Student pharmacists learn professional behaviors by observing and imitating peers and faculty in and out of the classroom setting. The values of the profession may be idealized in lectures, but they are demonstrated and reinforced by faculty and preceptors in various settings. To effectively create a culture of professionalism throughout the institution, a school needs the support of its faculty.

Areas of professionalism addressed
All areas of professionalism may be addressed.
