Careers in Pharmacy

Consultant Pharmacy

Consultant pharmacists supply pharmacy products and services for patients who are being cared for at home or in long-term care facilities, such as nursing homes, mental health rehabilitation centers, and correctional institutions. They evaluate drug therapies and patient profiles, inform the institution’s staff of new medications, and oversee the medication distribution process.

Many pharmacists practice consultant pharmacy as a component of another practice, such as a community or hospital practice. According to the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists, there are approximately 10,000 pharmacists who work in consultant pharmacy.
