Research and innovation scientist Benjamin Bluml unanimously appointed Executive Director of The American Pharmacists Association Foundation.

WASHINGTON, DC –  The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Foundation Board of Directors recently unanimously voted to appoint the current senior vice president of research and innovation of the APhA Foundation as the foundation’s executive director.

Ben Bluml has worked for the APhA Foundation for 26 years in the Research & Innovation Department. After joining the team on February 5, 1996, Bluml got right to work as the director of practice-based research initiatives, providing leadership and development for their stimulating research and innovative activities. Through this work, Bluml and his team have designed effective structures and process models that enable pharmacists to implement innovative clinical services in a variety of practice settings.

The research and innovation team under Bluml’s leadership has worked to identify and demonstrate the ways pharmacists can add value to the health care team and help patients achieve better health. Along with Bluml’s nearly 3 decades of service as the principal architect for the patient care models at the APhA Foundation and 12 years of pharmacy practice experience, Bluml is the author of numerous innovative health care software applications and professional journal publications related to his work on collaborative practice, health information technology, interdisciplinary patient care, and quality improvement. He works with pharmacists, physicians, payers, research organizations, and technology companies across the United States to design and implement innovative collaborative practice programs and health care service delivery systems.
