Operation Diabetes

Diabetes affects the health and wellbeing of people nationwide. Currently, one in four people in the United States has diabetes, has a family member with the disease, or will develop the disease. Of the 20.8 million people in the United States with diabetes, 6.2 million of them are undiagnosed. Since its inception in 2001, student pharmacists who have participated in Operation Diabetes have screened 77,633 patients, and have referred 7,247 patients to their physician for follow up care.

Operation Immunization

The goal of Operation Immunization is to increase community awareness of immunization information, advise patients where they can obtain the proper immunizations, promote immunization services in pharmacies, and increase the public's awareness of the important role both pharmacists and student pharmacists can play in public health. Since the campaign began, 720,600 patients have been immunized by pharmacists and student pharmacists participating in Operation Immunization.

Heartburn Awareness Challenge

The National Heartburn Alliance, Procter & Gamble, and APhA-ASP have partnered to help American’s get "Heartburn Smart". More than 50 million Americans suffer the symptoms of heartburn more than twice a week. Approximately 10% of Americans suffer heartburn symptoms daily and more than a third of all Americans have heartburn on at least an occasional basis. Student pharmacists can help improve the quality of life of heartburn sufferers by presenting information on heartburn, and providing a personal consultation for patients. Student pharmacists have educated 2,394,775 heartburn sufferers across the nation.

APhA-ASP National Patient Counseling Competition

The National Patient Counseling Competition, sponsored by CVS/Caremark in conjunction with the United States Public Health Service, began in 1984 with the goal to encourage student pharmacists in their efforts toward becoming better patient educators. The competition is designed to reflect changes that are occurring in practice, to promote and encourage further professional development of the student pharmacist and to reinforce the role of the pharmacist as a health care provider and educator.





Project CHANCE

The American Pharmacists Association’s Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP), in conjunction with the Pharmacy Services Support Center (PSSC) of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), is pleased to continue their support of an awards program to be offered to APhA-ASP chapters. Ten APhA-ASP chapters will be awarded $2,000 for outstanding work on a project that promotes delivery of comprehensive pharmacy services within a 340B-eligible entity.
