APhA-ASP Midyear Regional Meetings

The APhA-ASP Midyear Regional Meetings (MRMs) are held every fall in each of the eight APhA-ASP regions across the country. The APhA-ASP MRMs are the only meetings in the U.S. designed exclusively for the needs of student pharmacists. MRMs bring together student pharmacists from across the country to provide a forum for discussions of common interest, provide valuable networking opportunities, and encourage participation in professional development and educational programs. During MRMs, the APhA-ASP Policy Process begins and the APhA-ASP Regional Officers are elected.

APhA Annual Meeting and Exposition

The APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition is held each spring. Approximately 6,000 total attendees convene for the four day meeting and represent all aspects of the profession including not only student pharmacists, but also practitioners, scientists, technicians and representatives of the pharmaceutical industry.

Members of APhA-ASP meet several times; at the APhA-ASP Opening General Session, APhA-ASP House of Delegates sessions and the APhA-ASP Awards Ceremony. Student pharmacists can attend a variety of educational programs offered – many of them student-focused. Chapters can reserve a poster board for the Chapter Poster Forum outside of the APhA-ASP Opening General Session to showcase their programs. Additionally, the APhA Employment Exchange and the Community Pharmacy Residency Showcase are offered to assist students seeking employment.

The APhA-ASP National Executive Committee is elected during the APhA Annual Meeting and Exposition.

APhA Summer Leadership Institute

The APhA Summer Leadership Institute is a focused professional development and leadership training program for chapter leaders. The Institute is a dynamic experience, motivating participants to concentrate on developing a professional attitude and enhancing their knowledge, skills, and leadership qualities. Students will take part in exciting presentations, interactive seminars, role playing, and teambuilding exercises. In many instances, participants replicate the curriculum using the Institute’s template for their own local college of pharmacy chapter’s leadership development programs. APhA-ASP chapters are invited to send one representative to the Institute, most often sending the Chapter President or President-elect.

The University of Utah School on Alcoholism and Other Drug Dependencies was established in 1951 and has continually expanded its scope to keep pace with the increased awareness of the health and social problems of alcoholism and other drug dependencies. APhA developed the Pharmacy Section to provide information, motivation, and guidance to pharmacists and student pharmacists who are interested in the implementation or strengthening of state and campus-level programs to help pharmacists/student pharmacists whose competence to perform their responsibilities has become impaired due to chemical dependency or other causes.
